In March 2020, Year 5 visited How Hill for a 3-day residential trip. We have enjoyed a number of fantastic activities.
We enjoyed dyke dipping. A dyke is a ditch that the marsh man used to travel around the mashes. We found lots of invertebrates in the water, including caddis fly nymphs, which used pieces of plant to camouflage themselves.
We also enjoyed walking around the nature trail to learn about the different habitats including the dry woodland, the wet woodland and the marshes.

We also visited Toad Hole Cottage to find out about the life and work of the marshmen that lived there in Victorian times. We dissected owl pellets to find out about their prey. We learnt how to use the reed to thatch a roof.
We went on a boat ride along the river. We visited a bird hide over Reedham Water, and we also visited a drainage mill on the marsh.
