In May 2021, our Reception classes have been learning about growing plants. The children have looked at what grows in the school grounds as we explore nature around us. They have also been learning about the parts of a plant and the plants we can eat. They are growing their own plants too: potatoes, tomatoes and lettuce. They have been learning about how plants grow from seeds and the conditions they need to flourish.
It is lovely seeing the children starting to discover the joys of caring for their own garden.
We’ve been reading stories too as always, such as Jasper’s Beanstalk, Eddie’s Garden and The Tiny Seed.
The children got creative by making their own sunflowers from salt dough and sunflowers seeds, painting them with the colours they had observed.

We set up an art gallery outside to show our grown ups. Let’s hope the sunflowers we plant are as beautiful as the ones we made!
