The Governors would like to welcome all new children and parents to Poringland School. We are very proud of our school’s achievements – children and staff – and we hope your child/ren thoroughly enjoy their time here.
As Governors we support Mr Burbage and his staff in the strategic leadership of the school.
We take our responsibilities very seriously, monitoring progress of the school improvement plan and providing challenge to ensure that all children achieve the very best they can in a safe and caring environment.
Our overall aim this year has been to reach ‘outstanding’ as an Ofsted judgement. Self evaluation suggests that the school is progressing well towards this.
We are keen to listen to everyone involved with the school and we thank all of you who responded to the parental survey which indicated a high level of satisfaction. We understand that communication is often an issue and Mr Burbage has been working hard to improve this with a new computerised system which allows e-mail contact.
Please do not hesitate to contact one of us should you have any concerns.
Our education committee receives detailed data which enables us to analyse children’s progress in depth. Poringland continues to exceed national results while still safeguarding an interesting and varied curriculum so that learning is enjoyable and children retain a desire to learn.
The education budget is tight , but careful, targeted spending ensures that priorities are focussed on raising standards and the school is well resourced. An investment this year in IT has ensured that children have the best equipment in this essential area.
We should like to thank parents for your support in fundraising and the PTA which enables us to provide a good level of staffing as well as equipment.
The Governing Body as a group have a variety of skills and backgrounds and we want to enhance this. We are seeking new members particularly people with a background in HR, building or finance. If you are interested or know of anyone outside of school who might be, please contact the school for further information. It is a voluntary, but rewarding role!
Information about governors and minutes of meetings can be seen on the school website along with the Governing Body Impact statement.
Sadly, our Chair of Governors, James Francis, has resigned owing to work commitments. We should like to thank him for his significant and tireless efforts in support of the school over 4 years. Janette Johns is chair of governors for this year and can be contacted via the school.
You have been notified already that Mr Burbage has accepted another post and has resigned. Under his leadership your children have made excellent progress as well as enjoying exciting extra-curricular experiences which they will always remember. We should like to thank Mr Burbage for everything that he has done for the children at Poringland and we acknowledge his hard work and commitment.
We shall be advertising for a new headteacher as soon as possible, but we need to ensure that the person appointed is able to lead the school well, reinforcing the progress made towards ‘outstanding’ so it may well be September when the new head starts. Mr Dean will be acting headteacher in the interim period. We have every confidence that he and the senior leadership team will continue the strong leadership of Poringland school.
We wish you all a successful year.
Janette Johns on behalf of all governors
